Adam Golfer is a filmmaker, artist and Director of Photography based in New York. His studio practice combines elements of photography, book making, short films, and installations, and informs his work as a DP.

His works reside in the slippery space between history and memory, and employ multiple, overlapping narratives. Often his process begins with documentary methodologies like interviews, research, and field recordings, but evolve into semi-staged hybrid forms that are highly subjective. These collages of memory create a dream-logic, where people –living and dead– echo one another and engage in direct conversation.

In Golfer’s cosmology, the Holocaust, migration, the Border Wall, the death of his father, drone pilots, bird watching, Nazi reenactors, addiction, Hollywood, the moon and River Phoenix’s ghost are all symbols for the same idea -absence.

He is a recipient of the 2016 Snider Prize from the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College, Chicago, and is one of 8 artists in the 2022-2023 New Jewish Culture Fellowship. He has been a member of the Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective since 2016.
